Samuel T. Hines (Coach Hines) grew up in a small town in North Carolina with a population of 700.  At 6’7,¨ he is the youngest and shortest of four boys. At a young age he focused on being the best that he could be and he has participated in sports all of his life.

He had the opportunity to travel throughout the world playing international professional basketball. He received numerous athletic honors during his 17 years playing and it culminated with an induction to the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame.

In the summer of 2000, Samuel Hines held his first youth basketball camp in his hometown of Wilson, NC at Reid Street Community Center. Coach Hines and his brothers instructed the camp participants on the fundamental skills of basketball and shared their life experiences, emphasizing the importance of hard work, education, diligence and high morals. Additionally, Coach Hines had a variety of professionals to participate in the camp to provide career guidance and inspiration to campers. At the completion of the first camp, Coach Hines was so excited about the potential he saw to positively impact the lives of aspiring young student -athletes that he set out to continue hosting the camp on an annual basis. Each year thereafter, the Samuel Hines Basketball Camp was conducted in North Carolina, Georgia, Israel, Poland, Italy and more.

As a professional basketball veteran, with more than 25 years of community service, Coach Hines demonstrated a dedicated passion for working with children of all ages and backgrounds. It was his desire to make academic and basketball training, camps, clinics and academic programs available to all children with a focus on economically underserved children.

In fall of 2003 he founded “Securing A Mind Foundation” (SAM-F) 501c3) with a vision to educate, elevate & empower our youth through sports.  With my mother and father constant love, I had to will to do better for them because they have sacrificed so much to give us the opportunity to succeed.  It is not an option to fall short of my goals.  The youth just need tough consistent love and they will fly ever than you could imagine.
